ToModern is a monthly zine exploring one modern art movement per issue, featuring key artists and their impact. This issue focuses on Abstract Expressionism, presenting it in a clear, engaging way for readers interested in art and design.

The process began with reflecting on my own experience studying art history books, where dense layouts and multiple artists presented on a single page made it difficult to remember names and artworks. This became the core problem the zine aimed to solve.

From there, I researched how art movements are typically presented in editorial and educational publications. I focused on identifying ways to simplify content without losing meaning, prioritizing clarity and visual hierarchy.

Based on this, I developed a concept that limits the number of artists per page and uses generous spacing to give each artwork more presence. I also experimented with layout systems that combine minimal text with strong visual storytelling, allowing the artwork to take the lead while supporting information remains easy to understand and remember.

The final zine presents Abstract Expressionism in a clean, focused format that improves readability and helps viewers connect each artist with their work more effectively.
